Congratulations to Joshua Jordan and Sarah McDannold, MPH for receiving VA C20 Hero Award for Innovation (CHAI)-CARE Awards for their commitment to serving Veterans. They were nominated by CHOIR Investigator Gemmae Fix, PhD:
"Our Bedford-based Research & Evaluation Team (VA CHOIR) is working with the NJ-based War Related Illness & Injury Study Center on creating Veteran-facing educational materials. These materials will help Veterans understand airborne hazard exposures and VA care. Sarah and Josh created an informational flyer to recruit Veterans to provide feedback to our team and ensure our materials resonate with other Veterans. The response has been overwhelming! Over 200 Veterans contacted them in less than 24 hours to learn more and share their experiences. Sarah and Josh did an amazing job working well past their tour to make sure these Veterans knew someone at VA cared and was listening. I'm really proud of this team and their demonstration of ICARE."
CHAI-CARE awards are given to hard-working and innovative individuals and teams across VA who have gone "above and beyond" the expectations of their role and responsibilities, demonstrating one or more "ICARE" values: Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence.
